Role of Pathology in Early Detection and Control of Communicable Diseases through Preventive Medicine Strategies

Dr. Meenakshi Pradhan

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Pathology serves as the cornerstone in diagnosing and understanding the pathogenesis of communicable diseases, enabling timely intervention and effective preventive measures. This paper explores how pathological tools— ranging from histological analysis to molecular diagnostics—facilitate early detection of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, dengue, and hepatitis. Emphasis is placed on integrating pathological findings with public health initiatives for controlling outbreaks. Preventive medicine, encompassing immunization, health education, and vector control, is discussed in tandem with pathological insights to provide a holistic strategy. Case studies from India and Africa illustrate how timely pathological intervention prevented large-scale outbreaks. The synergy between pathology and preventive medicine offers a roadmap to disease elimination and containment, especially in underresourced settings.
