Secure and Trustworthy Edge-IoT Systems

Vivaan Khanna, Nisha Rathore

Abstract

The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) has led to an exponential increase in connected devices, generating enormous amounts of data. Edge computing has emerged as a solution to reduce latency, enhance real-time processing, and alleviate the burden on centralized cloud systems. However, the integration of edge computing with IoT (Edge-IoT) introduces unique security and trust challenges due to distributed architectures, resource-constrained devices, and dynamic network topologies. This paper reviews the current stateof-the-art approaches for securing Edge-IoT systems, highlighting challenges, threats, and potential solutions. The study focuses on secure communication protocols, authentication and authorization mechanisms, trust management frameworks, and privacy-preserving techniques. Furthermore, it explores blockchain and AI-based methods for enhancing trustworthiness in Edge-IoT environments. The paper concludes with a discussion on open research challenges and future directions, providing insights for developing robust, secure, and trustworthy Edge-IoT systems.
