Abstract

Within homoeopathic practice, medicines from the materia medica are usedfor a range of minor dental complaints and as adjuncts in the perioperativeperiod, the best known being Arnica montana for the soreness and bruisingthat follow injury or surgery. This paper reviews the role of homoeopathictherapeutics in dental and perioperative care, defining its adjunctive function, its application to wound healing and recovery, and its limitations. A review-based methodology is adopted, drawing on the homoeopathic materia medica and clinical literature, on standard oral-surgery references, and on the available evidence. The analysis indicates that homoeopathic use in this field is described chiefly for minor dental complaints, such as uncomplicated toothache, teething, and aphthous ulcers, and for adjunctive perioperative support across the pre-operative, post-operative, and wound-healing phases. A structured framework is presented comprising a perioperative timeline of adjunctive measures, a mapping of representative remedies to injury types, and a set of dental red flags requiring surgical or emergency care. The study emphasises strongly that homoeopathy is not a substitute for dental or surgical procedures, local anaesthesia, drainage of abscesses, antibiotics where indicated, or emergency care, and that conditions such as spreading infection, facial swelling, airway compromise, uncontrolled bleeding, and dental trauma require prompt conventional management. It is further noted that the clinical evidence is limited and mixed, with systematic reviews of widely studied agents such as homoeopathic arnica finding the evidence unconvincing. The paper concludes that any role for homoeopathic therapeutics here is confined to minor complaints and adjunctive support, must operate within clear referral safeguards, and must never delay necessary surgical, anaesthetic, or antibiotic treatment.  KEYWORDS: Homoeopathic Therapeutics, Dental Surgery, PerioperativeCare, Arnica, Wound Healing, Adjunctive Treatment, Referral, MateriaMedica
