Integrative Approaches in Ocular and Oral Health: A CrossDisciplinary Therapeutic Perspective
Abstract
In recent years, the integration of ocular and oral health has emerged as a focal point in interdisciplinary healthcare research. The eye and oral cavity are windows to systemic health and share common developmental origins, vascular pathways, and immunological responses. The traditional compartmentalization of medical disciplines has often overlooked this interconnection. However, emerging research has demonstrated how systemic inflammation, microbial dysbiosis, and chronic conditions manifest simultaneously in both domains. This paper explores integrative approaches combining ophthalmology and dentistry, aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment, and prevention through collaborative healthcare. Drawing from the fields of periodontology, ocular immunology, and systemic disease management, this paper advocates for a more inclusive and cooperative healthcare model. It addresses current challenges, highlights innovative therapeutic frameworks, and evaluates the scope of integrative research for enhancing patient-centered care.
