Homeopathic Remedies in Management of Thyroid and Endocrine Disorders
Abstract
Endocrine disorders constitute a major public health challenge worldwide, with thyroid diseases being among the most prevalent hormonal disturbances. Conventional treatment approaches largely rely on long-term hormone replacement or suppressive therapies, which though effective in biochemical correction, often fail to address the individual’s constitutional and psychosomatic dimensions. Homeopathy, with its holistic and individualized approach, has been widely used in the management of thyroid and other endocrine disorders, aiming not only at symptomatic relief but also at restoring hormonal balance. This review paper explores the role of homeopathic remedies in the management of thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, autoimmune thyroiditis, and selected endocrine conditions including diabetes mellitus, adrenal dysfunction, and polyendocrine syndromes. Classical homeopathic literature, clinical experiences, and available observational and clinical studies are reviewed. Commonly indicated remedies such as Thyroidinum, Iodium, Calcarea carbonica, Lycopus virginicus, Natrum muriaticum, and Sepia are discussed in detail. The paper also highlights possible mechanisms of action from a biological and regulatory perspective, limitations of existing evidence, and the need for well-designed research. Homeopathy appears to offer a complementary and individualized therapeutic option in endocrine disorders, especially in functional and early-stage disease, though further scientific validation is required.
