Legal and Ethical Challenges in the Practice of Vyavahara Ayurveda: An Analysis of Forensic Dimensions within the Traditional Indian Medical System
Abstract
Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of life and medicine, has historically extended beyond the treatment of disease into domains concerning law, ethics, and forensic practices. Vyavahara Ayurveda, often described as the medico-legal branch of Ayurveda, provides insights into procedures of justice, medico-legal investigations, and the ethical duties of practitioners. In the contemporary era, with the growth of forensic science as a specialized field, Ayurvedic perspectives present both opportunities and challenges. This paper seeks to explore the legal and ethical challenges faced in Ayurvedic forensic practice, situating Vyavahara Ayurveda in its historical context while examining its relevance in the modern medico-legal landscape. It emphasizes ethical dilemmas, legal responsibilities, integration with modern forensic methods, and the potential role of Ayurveda in shaping holistic approaches to justice.
