Smart Warehousing and Robotics as a Service (RaaS): Transforming Modern Warehouse Operations

Jitesh Singh, Devansh Kulkarni

Abstract

Warehousing has evolved rapidly in the past decade due to growth in ecommerce, rising customer expectations, and advancement in digital technologies. Traditional warehouses which relied heavily on manual labour are now shifting toward smart warehousing systems enabled by automation, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics. One of the most significant developments is the emergence of Robotics as a Service (RaaS), where robots are deployed through subscription-based models rather than capital investment. This model reduces financial barriers and allows flexible scalability for warehouse operators. This paper reviews the concept of smart warehousing integrated with RaaS, discusses enabling technologies, operational benefits, challenges, and future implications. The study also highlights how small and medium warehouses are adopting robotics through service-based platforms. Tables and figures are included to illustrate warehouse transformation and service architecture. The review concludes that RaaS combined with smart warehousing technologies is reshaping inventory management, order fulfillment, and operational efficiency across industries.
