Abstract

Child abuse and neglect represent a grave violation of children’s rights, leading to immediate harm and long-term psychological, physical, and social consequences. Nurses, especially those working in pediatric, community health, and school environments, play a pivotal role in identifying, reporting, and preventing such cases. This paper explores the proactive and responsive functions of nursing professionals in preventing child maltreatment. The discussion emphasizes early recognition, inter-professional collaboration, caregiver education, and advocacy, while also highlighting the challenges and scope of nursing interventions. A comprehensive understanding of the subject enhances nurse preparedness and ensures that vulnerable children receive timely protection and care.
