Oral Health Promotion in Children through School Programs: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Long-Term Wellbeing
Abstract
Oral health plays a critical role in the overall well-being of children. Poor oral hygiene in early years can lead to dental caries, periodontal diseases, pain, and absenteeism from school, and even malnutrition. Schools are recognized as ideal settings for promoting oral health due to their access to children during formative years. This paper explores the effectiveness, scope, and methodologies of oral health promotion programs implemented in schools globally. Drawing from case studies and international best practices, the study highlights the role of educators, health professionals, parents, and policy-makers in executing sustainable school-based oral health interventions. It further addresses challenges such as lack of awareness, socioeconomic barriers, and resource constraints. Recommendations for enhancing these programs through collaborative models, curriculum integration, and digital health technologies are presented. The paper underscores the importance of early prevention and the lifelong benefits of fostering oral health awareness among children.
