Management of Severe Coronary Artery Calcification through Lekhaniya and Hridroga Chikitsa

Abstract

ABSTRACT Severe Coronary Artery Calcification (CAC) represents an advanced stage of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, characterized by fibro-calcific plaque deposition that drastically compromises arterial compliance, limits distal perfusion, and increases major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). In conventional medicine, dense macrocalcification severely complicates percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), often requiring high-risk rotational or orbital atherectomy. This paper presents a comprehensive Ayurvedic therapeutic framework analyzing severe CAC through the pathophysiological lens of Kaphaja/Sannipataja Hridroga, Dhamani Pratichaya (atherosclerosis), and Dhamani Kathinya (arterial hardening) driven by the pathological infiltration of Khara, Chala, and Ruksha gunas of vitiated Vata into the vascular channels (Rasavaha and Raktavaha Srotas). The management paradigm integrates Lekhaniya Chikitsa (targeted bio scrapping therapy) with specialized Hridroga therapeutic modalities. We evaluate the synergistic action of Lekhaniya Mahakashaya herbs, Guggulu preparations (such as Navaka and Kaishore Guggulu), Lekhana Basti, and specialized nano-crystalline mineral therapies (Heerak Bhasma and Tamra Bhasma) designed to safely disrupt intravascular macro-calcification, restore endothelial elasticity, and clear deep-seated Ama. Simultaneously, cardio protective Rasayana agents, spearheaded by Terminalia arjuna, regulate myocardial tone, combat oxidative stress, and facilitate long-term neo vascularization. This dual scraping-rejuvenation methodology provides a highly viable, non-invasive, integrated therapeutic option for managing advanced calcified coronary lesions.
